Coach Gil is entering her 1st season with the Lady Mustangs. Katie Gilstrap established her career at Sprayberry high school located in Marietta, Georgia. She started all four years as a middle blocker on the varsity team. She helped lead her team to State four years in a row. Her sophomore year her team made it all the way to the final four and fell against Marist High. She made the All-Area Team all four years and made the All Star Team her Senior year. Following her high school career she continued playing at Reinhardt University. She was a starting Middle blocker all four years and made First-Team All Conference her senior year.
Katie continued at Reinhardt University for one more season as an assistant coach to Coach Kandt. She then continued her coaching career at Cobb Atlanta. She has now been a part of the Coaching staff at Cobb Atlanta for four years. The season of 2015-16 she lead her team to a sweet victory of 2nd place at the AAU National Volleyball Tournament.
Kelsey enters her first season with Jr Mustangs. Kelsey is a Kaysville, Utah native and began her playing career at Fairfield Junior High School. She played her high school volleyball at Davis, as well as playing basketball and running track. She chose to continue on with her volleyball career at Salt Lake Community College in Utah. Kelsey was a libero for Salt Lake Community College in 2008 and 2009 before moving on to play at Campbell University in North Carolina, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in exercise science. At Salt Lake Community College, Kelsey was a key player on teams that finished ninth at NJCAA Nationals in her freshman year and fourth in her sophomore season. At Campbell University, she led the team in digs in both her junior and senior seasons. Bennett served an internship on the Campbell staff in the spring of her senior season and specializes in working with back row players and the defensive aspects of volleyball. She was voted to multiple All-Tournament Teams as a player at SLCC and at Campbell.
Kelsey returned to Salt Lake Community College to coach following her volleyball playing career at Campbell. She was on the coaching staff for four seasons, three of which she was the head strength and conditioning coach. Outside of coaching at SLCC, Kelsey was a sports performance trainer at The Orthopedic Specialty Hospital, where she had the opportunity to train a variety of athletes. Kelsey also coached a 14’s team at Club V for a season.
Bennett recently moved to Marietta with her husband Nate. She is currently coaching the 15-1's team at Cobb Atlanta and runs fitness for all their teams. Kelsey is excited to be a part of the Kennesaw Mountain Volleyball program.
